CapitalBiotech Co. Ltd ("CapitalBiotech") is one of the five commercial spinoffs from CapitalBio Corporation (CapitalBio) backed up by the National Engineering Research Center for Beijing Biochip Technology (NERCBBT). Professor Jing CHENG, who is the Tsinghua University Professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, runs CapitalBio as its Board Chairman, CEO and CTO and NERCBBT as its Funding Director. Since its establishment CapitalBiotech has focused on innovation and built a complete eco-chain by integrating R&D, production, sales, and third party independent laboratory medicine services. CapitalBiotech's products' portfolio includes various diagnostic microarrays and microfluidic chips, molecular testing reagents and consumables, supporting equipments and instruments, scientific research services and total solution design for wet and dry laboratories. Its products and services have been exported to more than 30 countries and regions in North America, Europe, and Asia and so on with a collective sales reached US$ 2 billion. Its innovative biochip products have twice won the most prestigious National Technological Innovation Award and once the National Science and Technology Progress Award.   • CapitalBio Corporation was founded.

  • CapitalBio's electromagnetic biochip was named one of China's Top 10 Scientific and Technological Advances of 2000.

  • Dr. Jing Cheng, founder of CapitalBio, authored the world's first English-language book on biochips.

  • CapitalBio published a paper on its independently developed microarray in Nature Biotechnology and was listed by Nature as a recommended global supplier of microarray products and services.

  • CapitalBio's HLA Microarray Genotyping Testing Service System was included in the approved HLA testing reagents for the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP).


  • The independently developed biochip platform won the Second Prize of the National Technological Invention Award.

  • CapitalBio obtained Laboratory Accreditation (CNAS-L2451) from the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS).


  • The first biochip industry standard, drafted by CapitalBio, was issued by the SFDA.


  • The Sample Repository of the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP) was established by CapitalBio.

  • The LuxScan™ 10K Laser Confocal Scanner was recognized as a "National Independent Innovation Product."

  • The 9-item Hereditary Deafness Gene Detection Kit (DNA Microarray Method) received medical device registration from the SFDA.

  • The 8-item Antinuclear Antibody Detection Kit (DNA Microarray Method) received medical device registration from the SFDA.


  • CapitalBio signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Roche.


  • The Beijing Hereditary Deafness Gene Screening Project for individuals with hearing impairments was successfully completed.


  • CapitalBio's world-leading newborn deafness gene screening initiative was included in Beijing’s 2012 Public Welfare Projects.

  • Three national biochip standards drafted by CapitalBio were issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

  • CapitalBio Diagnostics was designated by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) as its first enterprise-run pilot unit for personalized medicine testing.

  • The CapitalBio (Chengdu) Manufacturing and Testing Service Base was completed.

  • The CapitalBio (Dongguan) medical laboratory testing service and gene sequencing industrialization base was inaugurated.


  • CapitalBiotech launched a combined microRNA and AFP detection product for early-stage liver cancer screening.

  • A genetic testing for common hereditary hearing loss in Caucasian populations achieved preliminary clinical validation results in the U.S.


  • CapitalBiotech's NGS based non-invasive prenatal tests exceeded 1.5 million nation wide, helping to prevent the birth of over 10,000 children with intellectual disabilities.

  • CapitalBiotech's national newborn hereditary hearing loss genetic screening surpassed 3.3 million cases, helping to prevent sedative-induced deafness in over 80,000 children and their maternal relatives.

  • CapitalBiotech has drafted and implemented a total of 21 national and industry standards.

  • The CapitalBio hereditary hearing loss genetic diagnostic system won the Second Prize of the National Technological Invention Award for its R&D and clinical applications.


  • Leijingtang, CapitalBiotech's Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) subsidiary, was established in Beijing.

  • The mobile laboratory, with fully integrated SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid testing capability, successfully provided rapid testing service for the VIPs at the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.


  • The "R&D and Clinical Application of a Fully Integrated Rapid Nucleic Acid Detection Chip System" project won the First Prize of the Huang Jiasi Biomedical Engineering Award.

  • The Isothermal Amplification Microfluidic Chip Nucleic Acid Analysis System won the 2023 Top 10 Independently Innovative Medical Device Products Award.


  • The self-developed high-throughput single-cell transcriptome platform, sCelluFlu-A, was launched.

  • CapitalBio signed an agreement with Kazakhstan to jointly build the Kazakhstan National Precision Medicine Center.

  • CapitalBio signed an agreement with Uzbekistan to jointly build the Uzbekistan National Precision Medicine Center.


  • Newborn genetic hearing loss screenings using CapitalBiotech’s products surpassed 7 million.
